Every week, I meet someone who waited too long.

A woman whose knee has been painful for two years,  because she thought the pain would go on its own. A family whose father had a stroke eight months ago, and they are only now looking for a physiotherapist because nobody at the hospital told them what to do next. A young man in his thirties with chronic back pain that has quietly stolen his ability to play football with his children.

They are not careless people. They are simply people who did not know help was this close.

My name is Dr. Joseph Ntiamoah. I am a physiotherapist and rehabilitation specialist based in Kumasi, Ghana. I run The Rehab Haven,  a clinic built around one belief: that every person in Ashanti Region, and across Ghana, deserves expert rehabilitation care. Not someday. Now.

"Recovery doesn't begin when you leave the hospital. It begins when you get the right help."

Dr. Joseph Ntiamoah (PT)

Why I Started The Rehab Haven?

I did not start this practice because it was the easiest path. I started it because I kept seeing the same story repeat itself, patients who had received excellent medical care at KATH or other hospitals, but who were then discharged home with no clear plan for what came next.

No exercises. No follow-up physiotherapy. No one to call when the stroke survivor's arm still wasn't moving after three months, or when the pain after surgery wasn't improving.

In the UK and the US, countries whose healthcare systems we often compare ourselves to, rehabilitation is considered a core part of medical treatment. A stroke patient doesn't just get medication and discharge. They get a neurophysiotherapist. A person after knee surgery doesn't just get a cast removed. They get months of structured physiotherapy.

Ghana has brilliant physiotherapists. What we have lacked is a dedicated, community-rooted rehabilitation service that meets patients where they are, sometimes literally, in their homes and walks with them through the entire recovery journey.

That is what The Rehab Haven is.

What We Treat  And Who Are We Here For?

Let me be specific, because 'physiotherapy' is a word that means different things to different people. Some think it is only for athletes. Others think it is only for older people. The truth is that physiotherapy is for any human being whose body is not working the way it should,  whether that happened yesterday or five years ago.

CONDITIONS WE SPECIALISE IN AT THE REHAB HAVEN

1. Stroke Rehabilitation — helping survivors regain movement, balance, speech support, and independence after stroke

2. Neurophysiotherapy — treating conditions affecting the brain and nervous system: Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury

3. Chronic Pain Management — long-term back pain, neck pain, joint pain, and the kind of discomfort that doesn't respond to painkillers alone

4. Post-Surgical Rehabilitation — recovery after orthopaedic surgery, including knee replacements, hip procedures, and spinal surgery

5. Home-Based Physiotherapy — for patients who cannot travel, including elderly patients, stroke survivors, and those managing complex conditions

6. Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy — sports injuries, muscle strains, ligament injuries, and occupational pain conditions

You will notice that my practice leans heavily towards neurological and stroke rehabilitation. This is intentional. It is where I have seen the greatest unmet need in Kumasi. It is also where I have seen the most remarkable recoveries, when the right intervention happens at the right time.

What Makes The Rehab Haven Different

There are physiotherapists in Kumasi. I want to be honest about that. So let me tell you specifically what we do differently at The Rehab Haven,  not to compete, but so that you can decide whether we are the right fit for what you need.

  • Home visits across Kumasi

A Word About Who I Am as a Clinician

I believe in being direct with my patients. I will not promise you a miracle. Rehabilitation is work,  it requires consistency, patience, and honest communication between you and your therapist.

What I will promise you is this: I will always tell you the truth about your condition. I will explain everything in language you understand. I will involve your family, because I know that in Ghana, healing is rarely a solo journey. And I will celebrate every milestone with you, because I know how hard each one is earned.

I was trained in India with a specialisation in neurological rehabilitation. I continue to learn, reading, attending international training, and applying evidence-based practice to the realities of a Ghanaian healthcare context. My patients' outcomes are the standard I hold myself to.

"In Ghana, healing is rarely a solo journey. Recovery at The Rehab Haven includes your whole family."
